The swim takes place in the giant pool at Hansen Dam. The Blue line represents the swim. The little yellow line is the run from swim to T1. The Red line represents one 3.2k loop of the bike course. The Purple represents one 800m loop of the run course.
This pool is ~150m long and ~40m wide. It's only 5 feet deep in the deepest places and tapered on the sides. We will treat it like a lake and do a group swim start for each race category. It will be an in-water start with athletes standing in a depth of ~3.5ft. The blue line shows the Youth & Junior & NEVER EVER course, which will have blue buoys marking the turns and an orange buoy marking the exit. The yellow line shows the route to the transition area. The Discovery swim course will be just one, straight shot - point to point, on the shallow edge of the pool.
The transition area will be in the area marked by the green rectangle in the map below. The yellow line indicates the run from swim to T1. The transition area is one-way only. The mount line is the green edge at the top of the transition area is the dismount line is the green edge at the bottom of transition. Discovery does just one lap of the course but Youth and Junior and NEVER EVERS do multiple laps and they will ride straight through transition to begin their next lap. Green lines indicate run course, Blue burst is registration and the red arch is the finish.
The bike course has only one hill it in and it's very small. There are two 180 degree turns that require much care. Although the pavement is in excellent condition, the course has three round speed bumps to ride over and two, technical 90 degree turns as each rider nears the finish of the lap across from the transition area. The red dot and yellow dots represent stations for law enforcement personnel and volunteers on race day.
The run course is an 800m loop. It includes concrete, two small bits of grass, a nice long segment of hard packed flat dirt path and some asphalt. The run has some slight topography to it. Discovery does just one loop while Youth and Juniors and NEVER EVERS do 4.
