Discovery Race Rules...
The 7-12 year old athletes have it pretty easy; we're using standard USAT non-draft rules. The basics are these....for the swim: don't go 'til the horn blows and be sure to follow the course. Transition rules require helmets on and buckled before you ride. On the bike; ride on the right side of the bike course and pass on the left and no drafting. For the run, follow the course.  There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting at 9:45 in the expo area before your race starts at 10am. if you want to learn every rule then good on ya! Take a comprehensive look at USAT Rules

The Youth and Junior Draft Legal Rules....
The 13-19 year old athletes will need to follow ITU rules for this race. Some of these rules can keep you from even starting the race (like bike equipment violations for example). Other rules can result in a time penalty. If you want to learn ever rule, and that would be great for future events, take a comprehensive look at ITU "Competition Rules". The basics are these....
*For the swim you should expect the typical ITU start sequence: "athletes you are in the hands of the starter.....take your         mark - HORN!". Penalties will be incurred for any athlete who uses the bottom of the pool for advancement after the             start and before rounding the final yellow buoy at the exit (pool is very shallow on edges).
    *The transitions are critical.
        - In T1, you cannot touch your bike until your helmet is on and buckled.
        - In T2 you cannot unbuckle your helmet until you bike is racked.
        - Anything and everything in transition has to either be on your bike or in the bin (except run shoes).
*Bikes need to be road bikes (not tri bikes).
        - If you are using aerobars, they have to be short (cannot extend beyond brake levers) and bridged.
        - Only wheels with 12 or more spokes are allowed (no discs or wheels with 3-4 bladed spokes).
        - We will be using a penalty box during this event. You can learn the details of the penalty box and other keys to this                 race at the mandatory pre-race meetings: Juniors at 7:45am and Youth at 8:45am in the Expo.
        - We will not enforce ITU uniform rules at this event - racing in ITU legal suits are preferred but not mandatory.
